DuPage River cleanup Saturday a lesson teachers hope will stick with Naperville Central students

Naperville Central High School teacher Randy Smith hopes that a waterway cleanup project Saturday bothers students so much it sticks with them.

The social studies teacher is coordinating the second annual cleanup as a way to help students see that what they do locally can have an impact globally. He noted that by picking up trash along the DuPage River watershed, students can help prevent it from floating further downstream into the DesPlaines, Illinois and Mississippi rivers and ultimately, the Gulf of Mexico.
